According to the AP, Orpah will be announcing a new book club selection on Monday, December 6th. I'm always curious to see what she picks because inevitabley everyone in my office will be reading it (lots of Orpah devotees here).  And generally, I think most of her book clubs picks are good books, so if it gets more people reading good books who may not otherwise have done so, then hooray!  Who wants to take bets on what the next book selection will be?  Just for fun, I'm gonna guess either One Day by David Nicholls, which just feels so Oprah's-book-club-y to me or more hopefully, The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman, which is what I would pick, mostly because I'm really excited to read it.  Comment and tell me what you think/would want it to be!

I never even knew that Oprah had a book club until my copy of Their Eyes Were Watching God fell apart, when I went to buy another, I couldn't find one that didn't have her book club stamp physically printed on the cover.

Skippy Dies. She seems to be one of the few people that can get the general public interested in anything over 500 pages outside the YA section, and more people should really give that book a chance!

  3. CT says:

THE IMPERFECTIONISTS is not a novel. And I will never let it go, Dial Press marketing department. NEVER.

    (Still a good read, though.)

How is it not a novel?

  5. Oh Deanna says:

I'm thinking possibly "Room" since she loves horribly dark stuff (like me, weirdly.)

  6. CT says:

It's a collection of interconnected short stories, not a novel. (Though maybe I'm being a bit stringent; some people in my office book club did not agree with me.) If OLIVE KITTEREGE is a collection of stories, so is this.

  7. CT says:

I also grossly misspelled OLIVE KITTERIDGE. My apologies to an excellent book!
